Tata Safari Smart (O) Variant: What You Get For Rs. 19 Lakh [Video]

Tata Motors, a household name in the Indian automotive industry, has established a strong presence in the SUV segment with the Safari. This feature-rich vehicle caters to families seeking a spacious and comfortable ride. However, the extensive variant range of the new Tata Safari can be confusing, particularly for those prioritizing value. Let’s delve into the specifics of the Tata Safari Smart (O), priced around Rs. 19 lakh (on road) to understand what it offers.

The video uploaded by Yash9w on Youtube shows Tata Safari’s smart (o) variant in detail. Let’s understand what this model offers in detail. The Smart (O) variant might be the base model but its exterior doesn’t look like they belong to a base model.

It features sleek LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a gloss black grille, and a single projector headlamps. The absence of fog lamps and a shark fin antenna are minor concessions. The 17-inch black alloy wheels and skid plates add a touch of toughness. Notably, the rear section mirrors the higher-end models, featuring a full LED taillight setup with connected DRLs.

However, the only difference is halogen reverse light and the omission of a reverse camera, a convenience feature which is a must have in big cars. The boot space is not much when the third row is up. Also, this variant does not come with electric tailgate, which is not expected at this price point.

Stepping inside, the first noticeable difference is the traditional key, lacking remote lock/unlock functionality. This omission seems incongruous considering its presence in many cars under a much lower price bracket. While all four windows are powered, the ORVMs require manual adjustment, a slightly dated approach.

The steering wheel offers tilt and telescopic adjustments for optimal driving position. The digital instrument cluster provides a modern touch, but the lack of steering wheel-mounted controls might be a missed opportunity. The steering wheel only has controls for the MID. Notably, the car comes with TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) for added safety.

One surprising aspect is the inclusion of automatic climate control, a feature often sacrificed in base models. This prioritizes passenger comfort despite cost-cutting measures in other areas. The variant notably lacks a music system or speakers altogether, which necessitates an aftermarket installation for audio entertainment. Additionally, features like automatic wipers and headlights are absent.

The Tata Safari pairs a 2 liter diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission, offering 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque for strong performance. This setup prioritizes driver engagement and control, ideal for those who enjoy a connected driving experience and maximizing fuel efficiency (claimed 16.3 kmpl).

Despite the cost-conscious approach, Tata prioritizes safety by equipping the Smart (O) with six airbags as standard. This ensures occupant protection. The variant comes solely with a manual transmission, with no automatic option available.
