Volkswagen Taigun GT Sport Plus Variant Leaked Ahead of Launch


The Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus Sport variant is set to debut tomorrow, the 21st of March. Details about the new SUV have already been leaked. According to Carwale, the new model will come with two engine and three transmission options, providing flexibility to suit different preferences and driving needs. The car will also have some sporty cosmetic changes.

In terms of exterior features, the Taigun GT Plus Sport will sport darkened LED headlamps, a Carbon Steel Grey roof, and red GT branding on the grille, fender, and rear profile, adding a sporty and dynamic look. Additionally, it will feature dark chrome door handles and red brake calipers on the front. Various elements, such as the grille, diffuser, trapezoidal wing, 17-inch alloy wheels, and fender badges will also receive a blacked-out finish, further enhancing its aggressive appearance.

Moving to the interior, the Taigun GT Plus Sport will boast black leatherette upholstery with red stitching, providing a premium and sporty feel. Other interior highlights include aluminum pedals, a black headliner, a glossy black dashboard, and a sport steering wheel with red stitching, adding to the overall sporty ambience. Moreover, it will also feature an embroidered GT logo on the front seat backrest. The blacked-out roof lamp housing, sun visors, and grab handles will further complement the interior design.

Under the hood, customers will have the option to choose between two powerful engine options: the 1.0-litre-3 cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 114 Bhp of peak power and 178 Nm of peak torque, and a more powerful 1.5-litre-4 cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine pumping out 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. While the smaller engine will get 6 speed manual and torque converter gearbox options, the larger engine will be offered with 6 speed manual and 7 speed twin clutch DSG automatic gearboxes.

The Taigun GT is quite big in terms of safety. It boasts a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, making it one of the first SUVs in India to achieve this level of protection for both adult and child occupants. The Taigun comes equipped with up to six airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which helps maintain control during critical situations.

Coming back to the new variant. it has been conceived after seeing the increased demand from consumers who want something unique and sporty to drive. Other manufacturers, such as Hyundai, Kia, and Skoda, also have sporty iterations of their regular cars. The new Volkswagen Taigun GT Sports Plus will compete with cars such as the just-launched Hyundai Creta N-Line, Kia Seltos X Line, and Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo.

Volkswagen launched the Taigun in India in 2021, marking the German brand’s entry into the highly competitive compact SUV segment. The current price of the Taigun starts at Rs. 11.62 lakhs for the base comfortline variant and goes up to Rs. 20 lakhs for the top-end GT Plus trim.

The Taigun comes with two trim levels: Dynamic Line, comprised of Comfortline, Highline, Topline, and Performance Line, which includes the GT variants. The GT Plus sport variants are expected to be launched in both trims.
