Mahindra Automotive, after a lot of teasing, has finally launched the XUV 3XO. The new model comes with a brand-new front and rear end design. It also gets a ton of features as well. However, how does it compete with the Tata Nexon? Especially when we stack the base variant of the Mahindra XUV 3XO against the base variant of the Nexon. Well, if you are curious to find out, here is a detailed comparison of the two.
Exterior comparison
XUV 3XO
Let’s start off with the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s base MX1 variant. This variant on the outside looks very simple and misses out on a number of things that come on the top-spec model. At the front, the XUV 3XO will come equipped with similar-looking headlights.
However, there will not be an LED projector lamp. Instead, it will come with halogen projector headlights. What has been given to the base model are the C-Shaped LED DRLs. Sadly, it doesn’t get the LED fog lights.
Apart from this, it still gets the front grille in gloss black. But there is no silver on the front skid plate. Moving on to the side profile, it gets chunky claddings on the fenders. The MX1 variant only gets 16-inch steel rims without any wheel covers.
It gets body-colored door handles, but it does not come with body-colored ORVMs. Additionally, these ORVMs get turn indicators. The rear remains the same as other models. In terms of the overall appearance the Mahindra XUV300 looks good and aggressive from the rear. However, its front styling may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Nexon
Coming to the base trim of the Nexon, the Smart variant at the front gets LED headlights and LED DRLs. However, it does not come with fog lights. Overall, it looks very basic but gets all the major highlights of the new Nexon facelift.
Meanwhile, on the side profile, it also gets chunky black claddings as the XUV 3XO. The company only offers the Nexon base Smart variant with a set of 16-inch black steel wheels.
However, it gets no wheel covers from the company. Additionally, the company neither offers the door handles nor the ORVMs finished in body color. The rear remains mostly the same but doesn’t get a silver skid plate. The overall design of the Nexon is a lot better in terms of proportions and appearance. A lot of people will like the Nexon designs over the Mahindra XUV 3XO.
Interior and features comparison
XUV 3XO
In terms of the interior design, the Mahindra XUV 3XO base MX1 variant comes with a dual-tone interior with fabric upholstery. The SUV gets a simple steering wheel with no controls. It does not come with a touchscreen or any speakers.
However, it does come with a manual air conditioning system and a small MID screen on the instrument gauge cluster. Lastly, the car also gets a center armrest which none of the other base variants of any sub-compact SUV offer.
Its list of features includes 6 standard airbags and three-point seat belts for all passengers. It also gets rear AC vents and a 60:40 rear split seat. The overall interior looks very similar to the outgoing model. Its dual-tone color scheme makes it feel a little more airy.
Nexon
The Nexon, on the other hand, also comes with a very basic interior design. The base Nexon Smart only gets a black-themed interior. The car misses out on an infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, touch-based HVAC controls, and a lot of other amenities.
The base variant does, however, get a semi-digital instrument cluster, a manual air conditioning system, a two-spoke steering wheel, and three drive modes. Now despite this features the new Nexon’s interior could feel a little more cramped to larger individuals. However, its overall layout looks little more modern than the XUV 3XO.
Powertrain and pricing comparison
XUV 3XO
In terms of the powertrain, the base MX1 trim of the Mahindra XUV 3XO gets only one engine option. It only comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine makes 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque.
It only comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and offers a mileage of 18.9 kmpl. As for the pricing, the XUV 3XO MX1 variant is priced at Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Nexon
On the other hand, the Nexon Smart variant also comes with a single engine option. It gets a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power of 118 bhp, which is 8 bhp more than the XUV 3XO. It also offers 170 Nm of torque.
It only gets a 5-manual transmission option and offers a mileage of 17.44 kmpl. Meanwhile, in terms of pricing, the Nexon is Rs 66,000 more expensive than the XUV 3XO. It is priced at Rs 8.15 lakh. The Mahindra XUV 3XO maybe a little down on power but it makes up for it in torque department. Overall they both offer almost same performance. So its a tough call and it ultimately boils down to customer preference.
