Mahindra has enjoyed a ton of success with the three-door Thar in India. However, the company wants to increase its popularity even more in the country. For this, Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of the Thar five-door in August of this year. As the model is nearing its launch, numerous test mules of it have been spotted, and with the help of the details from these mules, a rendering has been created.
Mahindra Thar five-door rendering
This rendering of what could be the Mahindra Thar five-door has come courtesy of SRK Designs from YouTube. The rendered version of the Thar five-door features the similar iconic boxy appearance. It also retains a lot of the elements that made the three-door model famous.
However, the company has tweaked and added a number of things to make it more appealing and practical. On the front, the Thar five-door will come with a new front grille. It will have 6 slats with a horizontal dividing line. There will also be the new twin peaks logo at the front.
Apart from this, the headlights will now be all-LED units instead of halogen, as seen on the three-door model. The front bumper looks like the current model; however, there will be LED fog lights this time around.
Additionally, there will be LED DRLs and turn indicators on the fenders flares. Moving on to the side profile, the SUV will get a set of new and bigger 19-inch alloy wheels. These 10-spoke alloy wheels will be offered on the top-spec variant.
Coming to the main highlight, the SUV will get a set of new doors in the middle. Interestingly, the door handles will be positioned vertically on the C-pillar. Apart from this, it has been reported that the car will get a fixed metal roof.

There will be a sunroof and roof-mounted speakers on the inside of this metal roof. Although the rendering does not show the rear of the Thar five-door, it is known that the only change will be a slight update of the design for the LED taillights.
Thar five-door interior
The test mules of the Thar five-door have revealed that it will come equipped with a much more premium and comfortable interior with a range of upgrades. The main highlight will be the addition of a new and bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
It will come equipped with connectivity features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, alongside potential navigation features. Additionally, the car will come with a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel. This has been borrowed from the XUV700 and Scorpio-N.
Other features include the addition of a push start-stop button, automatic climate control, front and rear armrests, a single-pane powered sunroof in the top-spec variants, and more premium material quality upgrades across the cabin, including the dash, doors, and seat upholstery.
Powertrain options
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be offered with the same petrol and diesel engine options as the three-door Thar. The petrol version will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged mStallion engine.
Whereas the diesel version will come with a 2.2-liter mHawk turbocharged unit. The engines are expected to be tuned differently than the 3-door version. Mahindra will be offering the Thar 5-door in both 4×4 and 4×2 configurations.
