Nissan has announced a recall for certain variants of its only offering in India, the Magnite SUV. The cars are recalled due to a specific issue related to the front door handle sensors. If you have a Nissan Magnite manufactured from November 2020 up to December 2023, your car may be recalled. According to the automaker, the problem affects the base XE and mid XL variants of the Magnite. It is important to note that units produced after December 2023 are not impacted by this recall.
The company has clarified that this recall does not compromise the safety of the vehicle, allowing owners to continue using their SUVs without concern. Nissan has committed to solving this issue at no additional cost to the vehicle owners. A retrofit of the affected door handle sensor will be carried out free of charge for all impacted units. However, the company has not mentioned that how many units have been affected.
Nissan India will soon start reaching out to the owners of the affected vehicles to inform them about the recall and the subsequent steps for the sensor retrofit. The process aims to be smooth and hassle-free, ensuring minimal disruption to the daily use of the vehicle.
Additionally, Nissan is all set to launch the facelift of the Nissan Magnite. This will be the first facelift of the sub-compact SUV since its launch in 2020. The upcoming facelift will not only have cosmetic updates but will also include additional features.
The exterior changes include integrated roof spoiler, redesigned connected tail lamps, new alloy wheels, chunkier C-Pillars and a shark fin antenna. Multiple changes will be done to the car’s interior as well such as a larger touchscreen, Heads up Display (HUD), 360-degree camera, auto-dimming IRVM, sunroof and ventilated seats.
In terms of safety, the Nissan Magnite has scored an impressive 4-star GNCAP crash test rating. It comes with multiple safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, traction control, hill start assist, TPMS and electronic stability control. The facelifted version will come with six airbags and a host of other safety features.
The Nissan Magnite may disappoint many in terms of engine and power figures. The car is powered by a 1.0-litre three cylinder engine which produces 71 BHP and 96 Nm of Torque. A second 1.0-litre turbocharged engine is also available which pumps out 99 BHP and 160 Nm.
Both of these engines feel underpowered when compared to the competition. Transmisison options include a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT and a CVT. However, the CVT is only available with the turbocharged engine option.
With prices starting at just Rs. 6 lakhs, the Nissan Magnite is the most affordable sub-compact SUV in the Indian market right now. Nissan Magnite competes with prominent players such as the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Skoda’s upcoming C-SUV in the compact SUV segment. Nissan India is planning a SUV-only strategy, and will soon launch a slew of new SUVs across segments.
