Bharat NCAP Ratings For Maruti Baleno, Brezza And Grand Vitara Coming Soon

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the release of Bharat NCAP results for its popular models, including the Baleno, Brezza, and Grand Vitara. According to a senior Maruti Suzuki India official, these results could be announced anytime soon.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift

During the FY24 financial results press conference, Rahul Bharti, Corporate Affairs Head at Maruti Suzuki India, addressed queries regarding the Bharat NCAP results for the three cars. He mentioned, “We are expecting them any time,” indicating that the company is eagerly waiting for the crash test results.

For the Bharat NCAP, Maruti has submitted the Baleno premium hatchback, Brezza compact SUV, and Grand Vitara mid-size SUV for crash safety testing. However, the results of these tests are still awaited, as Bharti added, “As of now, the results are not known.”

Bharat NCAP is a voluntary program applicable to vehicles in the M1 category, which includes passenger vehicles with a gross weight of up to 3,500kg and no more than eight seats, excluding the driver’s seat. All the cars tested in Bharat NCAP are the base variants. The program evaluates vehicles based on three factors which are adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, and safety assist technologies.

The crash test conducted by Bharat NCAP includes various scenarios such as offset deformable barrier frontal impact, side impact, and pole side impact. These tests are conducted at specific speeds, with ratings given on a scale of one to five stars based on the vehicle’s performance. As per the guidelines, the frontal impact test is done at 64 km/h, the side impact test at 50 km/h and the pole side-impact test at 29 km/h

The base model of these three cars only offers standard safety features such as 2 Airbags (Driver, Front Passenger), a Seat Belt Warning, a Child Lock, Anchor Points for the Child Seat, an Overspeed Warning, Speed Sensing Door Lock, Anti-theft Engine immobilizer, Central locking, Anti Lock Braking System with Electronic brake force distribution etc. However, the higher variants of these cars offer many premium features such as a 360-degree camera, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reverse camera, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction control, Suzuki Connect, hill hold assist and much more.

Pricing for the Grand Vitara Compact SUV starts at Rs. 10.99 lakhs ex-showroom, while the base variant of sub-4m Brezza costs Rs. 8.34 lakhs ex-showroom. On the other hand, Maruti’s premium hatchback, the Baleno, costs Rs. 6.66 lakhs.

Currently, Bharat NCAP results have been declared for Tata Safari and Tata Harrier, both of which have achieved a five-star rating in both adult and child occupant protection categories. We are excited to see how these newer Maruti models perform in crash tests.

Considering the recent shift of people towards safer cars, we can expect a lot of improvement from previous crash tests of Maruti cars. For reference, the pre-facelift Baleno scored zero stars in Latin NCAP, and the popular Swift scored just one star in Global NCAP. However, the pre-facelift Brezza achieved a four-star safety rating.
