Upcoming Kia Clavis Compact SUV Spotted Testing In India For The First Time

After being spotted in its home country, South Korea, the Kia Clavis SUV has been seen testing in India for the first time. This time around, the Kia Clavis, wearing thick camouflage, was seen testing on a highway in the Delhi/NCR. Like the last time, not much was visible from the outside. However, it gives us a more assuring answer to the question that Kia is seriously thinking of launching the Clavis in India.

When is the Kia Clavis coming?

Earlier, it was reported that the South Korean automaker is planning to launch the Clavis in India. However, there were no concrete reports suggesting the same. But now, with the spotting of this unique boxy SUV in India, it seems like the company could be launching this SUV in the country.

As of yet, the exact dates have not been revealed. However, some believe that it could be around later this year and once launched it could sit between the Kia Sonet and the Kia Seltos.

First off, let’s talk about the exterior design of the forthcoming Kia Clavis SUV. From the not-so-clear spy shots of the front of the Kia Clavis, we can note that it will most likely get a vertically stacked split LED headlight setup. It will be complemented by a line of LED DRLs, which can be seen glowing in the spy shot.

Apart from this, we can note that the Kia Clavis will also get a boxy overall design, which includes a boxy bonnet, front fenders, and the front bumper. The same straight lines will be carried forward to the side profile.

Now, one thing that will be very unique about the Kia Clavis is that it will have a distinct B-pillar. It can be noted that it almost looks like a station wagon. It will boast a set of unique-looking 17-inch alloy wheels and will also get black roof rails. Additionally, the rear continues to boast the boxy design and will get very low positioned LED taillights.

Kia Clavis SUV: Interior design

Although there are no pictures of the interior from the test mule spotted testing in India, we previously shared the pictures of the Kia Clavis’ interior, which were taken in South Korea. Now it has to be mentioned that not much of the dashboard was seen due to heavy covers laid on top; it is noted that the SUV will come with a luxurious interior.

The previously shared pictures showed the presence of front and rear ventilated seats. The spy shots also revealed that the Clavis will come with a 360-degree camera and 12 parking sensors (6 on both ends).

One of the main highlights observed from the previously shared spy shots was the inclusion of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Most likely, the company will be offering the Clavis with ADAS suite of features in India like its sibling Seltos. Additionally, the car will also come equipped with a panoramic sunroof as well.

Kia Clavis SUV: Powertrain

Multiple reports have revealed that the company is planning to launch the Clavis SUV with both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric powertrains. Now, while the details about the electric variants remain undisclosed, industry standards hint at an impressive range between 350 km to 400 km.

As for the ICE powertrain, it is believed that the company will offer the Clavis with the same engine as the Sonet. It has been reported that the first engine option to be offered could be the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which will be able to deliver 120 PS of maximum power and 172 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options might include a 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) and a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT).
