Nissan X-Trail Launch Timeline Revealed: To Rival Toyota Fortuner With 3 Cylinder Engine

The Japanese automotive giant Nissan is all set to bring back its flagship fourth-generation X-Trail. This new SUV is expected to hit the roads by June-July this year. Recently, it has been reported that the X-Trail will now become a petrol-only model. Reportedly, it will be offered with a single engine option of a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Once launched, it will compete with the mighty Toyota Fortuner in the country.

According to Autocar India, Nissan is only planning to bring this SUV with a single powertrain option. As per the source, the company is bringing it specifically for the “petrol aficionados,” unlike the hybrid model showcased in India. This 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine will produce 204 bhp and 305 Nm of torque.

Nissan X-Trail to come as a CBU

As for the volumes, the company is expecting to not sell it in huge numbers. For this reason, they will be bringing it as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). For those who may not be aware, the government of India has a policy that allows up to 2,500 models per annum without homologation.

Once launched in India, it will be competing with the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan. The full-size SUV segment in India is led by the Toyota Fortuner. However, we do not think that Nissan is aiming to dethrone it.

On the inside, the new Nissan Magnite facelift is expected to get a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a head-up display (HUD). It is also believed that it will get a 360-degree camera, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (IRVM), sunroof, and ventilated seats.

As for the powertrain options, the Magnite will remain unchanged. It will continue to be offered with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This motor produces 71 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. It will also get the same turbocharged variant delivering 99 bhp and 160 Nm of torque.

Nissan’s Duster-Based SUV

Nissan is also actively working on the development of its very own Duster based SUV. In the past, it was called the Terrano. However, what it will be called this time around has not been revealed. It is expected to be launched in India by the end of 2025 and will compete in the mid-size SUV market.

Just like the new Duster, Nissan’s SUV will also be based on the CMF-B platform. Nissan and Renault have already confirmed that their SUVs will feature only petrol engine options. These will include a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine.
