Maserati, BMW, Mercedes, Audi Worth Rs 10 Crore Seized From GST Scam Accused

Noida Police’s Crime Response Team, along with the help of officials from Noida Sector 20 police station, recently arrested three individuals in connection with a GST scam case. All three accused are multimillionaires who have been scamming the system for the last five years. Along with the individuals, the authorities also seized multiple luxury cars with a total value of around Rs 10 crore.

According to Shakti Avasthi, DCP (Crime), the recently arrested individuals have claimed Input Tax Credit fraudulently by setting up as many as 30 shell companies. As per the reports, these individuals have caused a loss of almost Rs 68.15 crore to the system. A portion of this amount has already been recovered from the bank accounts of these individuals.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanjay Dhingra (54), his wife Kanika Dhingra (55), and son Mayank Dhingra (27). All of them are residents of East Punjabi Bagh, Delhi. The accused have been evading the cops for the last seven to eight months. The police even sought help from the public and announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for their arrest.

Mr. Avasthi said, “To evade arrest, the suspects used to travel frequently and kept changing hotels and locations. Among the vehicles recovered from their possession are the Italian luxury car Maserati, a Mercedes, and a BMW. Recently, they also started a realty business. All three have purchased land worth crores of rupees in Karnal, Haryana, and they also have a farmhouse in Chhatarpur, Delhi.”

Avasthi added, “The suspects pretended to be in the dairy business. They have been caught for GST fraud before, but then they would change their company’s name and start again.”

The accused were traveling in expensive cars like Maserati Levante, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW X7, and many other cars. Upon questioning, the accused said that they knowingly bought expensive cars to ensure that cops do not stop them on the road for usual checks. Usually, cops on duty try not to stop expensive cars, as the owners of these cars often have all the documents up to date and these cars are also used by influential people in society. Cops try to stay away from trouble by not stopping such expensive cars.

However, in this case, the accused have been caught and the cars have been seized too. Six luxury cars were seized by the investigation team and along with that, they also recovered seven mobile phones, one tablet, and Rs 1.41 lakh in cash.

A case was registered against the accused in this case last year in June. Since then, cops have arrested more than 40 individuals in connection with this case. Last year in June, cops had busted a gang who were suspected of orchestrating this multi-crore fraud.

This is not the first time we have come across a case of financial fraud. One of the most recognizable names is Sukesh Chandrasekhar. He created fake identities and used them to extort money from rich businessmen. He had several expensive cars like Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, which were all seized by the Enforcement Department and later auctioned to recover the amount.
