Maruti Suzuki launched the much awaited Jimny in the Indian market in 2023. However, the SUV did not perform well as the market was already captured by the Mahindra Thar. This led to the brand offering multiple discounts on the Jimny. Once again, Maruti is offering a discount of up to Rs. 1.5 lakhs on the SUV. Let’s understand what this SUV has to offer.
The car is showcased in a walkaround video uploaded by Yash9w on YouTube. The variant shown here is the top of the line Alpha finished in red color. The host starts with the exterior of the car. The Jimny features a boxy and rugged design similar to the Gurkha and Thar. Even though the Jimny is the smallest car in its segment, it is the only one to feature five doors.
At the front, it comes with rounded LED headlights and halogen indicators. A notable feature is the headlight washers, which help in keeping the lights clean during off road adventures. The bumper is not body coloured, and it comes with halogen fog lights.
The Jimny rides on 15-inch alloy wheels. The car shown in the video is a top model, but it features indicators on the fender, which may disappoint many. The side profile highlights the unique USP of the Jimny, which is the doors for the second row.
At the rear, the Jimny features boot mounted spare wheel and bumper mounted halogen taillights. Again, the bumper is not body colored. The tailgate is side opening and the boot space is decent.
Compared to the competition, the Jimny offers much better features such as keyless entry, push button start, auto headlights, 10-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto & Apple Car Play and auto AC. A major downside of the Jimny which the host highlights is the lack of height adjustment in driver seat.
Other features include steering mounted controls, cruise control, digital multi information display (MID) and many more. A key highlight of the interior is its analog instrument cluster, which features dials inspired from the legendary Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.
Concluding the video, the host mentions that a direct discount of Rs. 1.25 lakhs is available on the Jimny and with further negotiations, buyers can extend this discount up to Rs. 1.5 lakhs.
Talking about the engine options, the Maruti Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 105hp and 134Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The car also features Maruti Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD tech as standard across all variants.
One of the major reasons the Jimny did not become as popular as the Thar is its road presence. Both the Thar and Gurkha are bigger than the Jimny. Out of the three, the Gurkha is the longest and only one with a 4m+ length. With the launch of Thar five door and Gurkha five door, the competiton in the budget 4×4 segment is expected to intensify even further.
