Mahindra Registers XUV 3XO, 5XO And 7XO Names For Upcoming Electric SUVs

Like most car manufacturers, Mahindra is also developing electric cars. They have even developed a new platform for their upcoming electric cars. We now have reports that suggest that Mahindra has recently registered three new names for their upcoming electric cars. According to the report, the names trademarked by Mahindra are XUV 3 XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 7XO, and XUV 1XO.

Instead of going for new names for their upcoming EVs, it seems like Mahindra has decided to go with short, and less confusing names. The 1XO is going to be their new electric SUV and probably the smallest one in the lot. The 3XO is expected to be the electric version of the XUV300, the 5XO is expected to be the electric version of the XUV500, and the 7XO is the EV version of the XUV700. Mahindra is expected to use these names in the production version of the EVs that were showcased last year.

Mahindra’s trademark status is currently “accepted and advertised,” which means the names have been published for scrutiny. In case someone (any brand) has an objection to the name, a plea can be filed. In other words, these names are not completely registered, and there is a possibility that they may change.

The electric version of the XUV700 was registered as XUV.e8; however, it looks like the brand is now reconsidering the way they want to name their electric cars. Mahindra is probably looking to maintain the traditional naming nomenclature where the name of their model ends with the letter O (Scorpio, Bolero, XUV 700).

Mahindra’s upcoming EVs are expected to offer a similar set of features as their ICE counterparts. In terms of design changes, the electric version would be offered with a closed front grille, redesigned front fascia, low-resistance tires, new aerodynamic wheels, and LED headlamps and tail lamps. The vehicles that fall under the Born Electric range will offer several new and interesting features.

We recently came across a spy video of Mahindra’s upcoming XUV.e9 SUV with a coupe-like design. The SUV is expected to be launched in the market sometime in 2025. In the spy video, we saw that the test mule had a triple-screen setup on the dashboard. This is probably the first time any Indian manufacturer is offering a feature like this.

The XUV.e9 is built upon Mahindra’s new-age INGLO platform, specifically designed for electric vehicles. This platform allows for a flexible approach to battery size and drivetrain configurations. The XUV.e9 is expected to offer battery packs ranging from 60 kWh to 80 kWh, catering to diverse driving needs. Other than this, the SUV is expected to be available in both single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants.

The flexible battery pack options are expected to be seen in the upcoming 7XO, 5XO, and other SUVs too. The XUV 3XO, 5XO, and 7XO are expected to have a driving range of 400-450 km, while the 1XO will have a smaller battery pack with an expected range of 200-250 km.

Car manufacturers around the world are now investing or focusing on making electric cars as they are being marketed as the future of mobility. Mahindra already has the XUV400 electric SUV in the market that competes with the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and MG ZS EV in the segment.
