Maruti Suzuki launched the Fronx in April 2023 to offer something unique in the sub-4m market crowded with traditional SUVs. It features a distinctive crossover design, which was not seen in this segment before. Today, we will learn what the base Sigma variant of the Fronx offers via a YouTube video uploaded by Classic Gears.
As usual, the video starts with the car’s exterior. At the front, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx features a big piano black grille with a chrome bar. The subcompact crossover SUV follows the industry trend of bumper-mounted headlights with indicators and DRLs placed above. However, being the base variant, this car does not feature DRLs. In addition, it comes with projector-based headlights with halogen bulbs and indicators.
The side profile of the Fronx features black body cladding to give it a rugged look. The Fronx base variant drives on 15-inch steel rims. Cost cutting is evident in the base model with fender-mounted indicators, black-coloured ORVMs and door handles. Being a crossover SUV, the car has a sloping roofline, which gives it an appealing look.
The ORVMs do not come with an electric fold function, but to adjust them ORVMs, you have to press on the glass. This makes the adjustment highly inconvenient and a letdown for many. Roof rails and shark fin antennae are noticeable additions.
At the rear, the car has aggressive-looking LED taillights. The higher variants of Fronx also feature connected taillights. It misses out on multiple features, such as a wiper with a washer and reverse parking camera. However, it comes with basic necessities, including a defogger and reverse parking sensors.
Now, let’s talk about the interior of Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The car features a dual-tone interior finished in Coffee Brown and Black colour combination with bronze elements. All the necessary functions are present, such as all four power windows, digital Multi-Information Display (MID) and tachometer.
However, the infotainment system, steering-mounted controls, vanity mirror, dimming feature in IRVM and soft-touch materials are missing. Surprisingly, even the base variant of Fronx comes with auto AC. Amenities in the rear seat include a 12V socket and 60:40 split seats. No AC vents are provided in the second row of the Fronx.
The host mentions that the steering wheel of Fronx is relatively light compared to other cars. He goes on to add that the Maruti Suzuki Fronx has a different engine than Ignis, Swift, and Baleno. The car is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet four-cylinder engine. Consumers have the choice between a pure petrol or CNG option.
This engine produces 90 HP and 113 Nm in the pure petrol version, while in the CNG version, the power figures are reduced to 77.5 HP and 98.5 Nm. Buyers can opt for a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT in the pure petrol configuration. On the other hand, the CNG option is only available with a 5-speed manual.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx also comes with a third, much sportier 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine option. This engine pumps out 100 HP and 148 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
The pricing of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx starts at Rs. 7.52 lakhs for the base Sigma variant and goes up to Rs. 13.04 lakhs for the top-end Alpha Turbo DT AT. It competes with similarly priced cars such as Baleno, Sonet, i20 and Venue. Safety-wise, the Fronx gets up to six airbags (two as standard), an electronic stability program (ESP), a hill-hold assist, traction control (TC), a 360-degree camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
