What happened with Ford India?
The American carmaker’s Indian subsidiary, Ford India, made its exit from the Indian car market in September 2021. This left a lot of enthusiasts and industry experts wondering about the future of the company in India. Soon after its exit, the company’s Sanand plant in Gujarat was sold to Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Ford retained its Tamil Nadu plant despite earlier plans to sell it. Ford to focus on EVs
The recent job posting for a Product Manager in the EV platform has sparked many speculations, one of them being that it will now focus on electric cars. It is believed that the company could be launching more electric vehicles in India to gain more market share in the less crowded EV market. Apart from EVs, Ford India has recently also filed a design patent for the new-generation Endeavour SUV. Speculations also point towards Ford’s possible re-entry into the mid-size SUV segment in India. Before exiting India, Ford India saw huge success, especially with the EcoSport SUV, hence it might be planning to launch a new mid-size SUV alongside larger and smaller SUV models as part of its comeback strategy.
