Design And Features

The design of the all-new Pulsar NS400Z is similar to other NS series motorcycles from Bajaj. It uses a Perimeter frame similar to the one seen in the NS200. While the motorcycle does look a lot like other NS models, there are several elements that differentiate it from the rest.

The headlight design looks like an evolution from the regular NS motorcycle. The headlights have unique-looking lightning-shaped LED DRLs with a projector LED headlight in the center. The overall styling of the motorcycle looks aggressive. It gets 43 mm USD forks at the front finished in a golden shade. The rear gets a preload-adjustable monoshock.

Moving to the rear, you notice the bulky-looking tank with extended shrouds giving the bike an aggressive character. The fuel tank capacity of this motorcycle is 12 litres. Just like the NS200, Bajaj is offering a split seat setup for the new NS400Z as well. This new motorcycle from Bajaj offers a colour LCD with dot matrix display which shows all necessary information and more. The instrument cluster also shows navigation, allows the rider to control the music player, and even has a lap timer.

The brake and clutch lever of the Bajaj NS400Z are adjustable, and the switchgear on the bike is also new. The motorcycle uses 17-inch wheels at the front and rear. The motorcycle gets an underbelly exhaust just like its 200cc sibling. Braking duties on this motorcycle are done by a 320 mm front disc mated to a 4-piston Grimeca axial caliper and a 230mm rear disc.

The NS400 has a seat height of 805 mm, which makes it approachable even for shorter riders. The motorcycle weighs 174 kilos, which is 19 kg less than the Dominar. Bajaj has always played up the sporty credentials of the Pulsar line-up, and in line with that, the motorcycle is significantly lighter than the Dominar. However, the Pulsar NS400Z is now the heaviest Pulsar ever built.

Engine and Gearbox

Coming to the heart, the Bajaj Pulsar NS 400Z is powered by a 373 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that generates 40 Ps and 35 Nm of peak torque. This is the same engine that is used in the Dominar 400 too. Bajaj claims that the NS 400Z has a top speed of 154 Kmph. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, and it gets the slip-assist clutch too.

The motorcycle comes with 4 riding modes namely – Sport, Road, Rain, and Off-road. It gets 3 levels of traction control and switchable dual-channel ABS (only in the off-road mode). Details related to all this can be seen on the color LCD instrument cluster. This level of equipment on a motorcycle priced at under Rs. 2 lakh is quite unprecedented.

Just like other Bajaj products, the NS 400Z is also priced competitively. The introductory price of the NS 400Z is actually Rs 46,000 less expensive than the Dominar 400. Bajaj is offering the NS 400Z in four shades: Brooklyn Black, Pewter Grey, Metallic Pearl White, and Glossy Racing Red. Just like many other Pulsar models, the new NS 400Z will also be exported to international markets from India. The Pulsar is a very strong brand in Latin America, and soon the NS400Z will be the new Bajaj flagship in these markets.

Pulsar NS 400Z represents stonking value

The Bajaj Pulsar range has always represented high value-for-money, and the just launched Pulsar NS 400Z is no different. It’s the most affordable 400cc motorcycle money can buy in India. In terms of the sheer performance offered per lakh, the Pulsar NS 400Z stands head and shoulders above competition.

It’s also the fastest Pulsar Bajaj has ever built!

For under Rs. 2 lakh, thanks to the Pulsar NS 400Z one can buy a motorcycle that has a top speed of 154 Kmph. The motorcycle is expected to hit the 0-100 Kph sprint in less than 7 seconds. What most riders would want though is a strong low and mid range performance. Only a test ride will tell us whether the Pulsar NS400Z has this character.
