Tata Motors is one of the leading car manufacturers in India. One thing we keep hearing from Tata customers is the poor aftersales service from the dealers. Here we have another example where a brand new Tata Harrier facelift SUV, only a day old, broke down. The customer called the dealership for help but did not receive any response. He then took to the internet and posted images of his brand new Harrier along with his issue on X.

The images were shared by Nehul Choudhary on his X profile. The Tata Harrier owner shared images of his brand new Harrier parked in a garage. He also displayed the malfunction notification message appearing on the instrument cluster. Nehul wrote, “Purchased Tata Harrier on January 31, 2024. Didn’t start the next day, no response from Tata, they didn’t even tow my car. Odometer reading 252 km. They are not taking responsibility if the car is damaged during towing.”
The images were posted on February 6, indicating that the customer had not yet resolved the issues. After the images and the tweet went online, Tata Motors replied to the customer, stating, “Hi Nehul, our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Please share your primary and alternate contact numbers, email ID, and dealership details via DM so we can have the relevant team assist you soon.”

As seen in the images, the Hill Descent Malfunction detected notification and another notification saying Drive Control System Fault were displayed on the instrument cluster. The tweet doesn’t explain much about the issue. It seems the customer or owner was able to start the car but unable to engage it in Drive mode or drive it (this is just an assumption and could be incorrect).
This is not the first time we have come across such an incident. In the past, there have been cases where Tata dealerships delivered damaged cars or cars with faults to customers. You might remember a case from Lucknow where a customer’s brand new Tata Altroz premium hatchback refused to engage gear the day after purchase. In that case, the customer also had a very bad experience with customer service as they blamed the customer for damaging the car. Buying a brand new car is a dream for many. People save for years to get their first car. If they start facing such issues with a brand new vehicle, it ruins the overall experience and trust in the brand. Hopefully, Tata Motors will look into this matter and resolve the issue soon.

The Tata Harrier is currently one of the popular SUVs in its segment. The facelift version was recently tested at Bharat NCAP, scoring a full 5-star rating. It comes with features like ADAS, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, illuminated Tata logo on the steering wheel, electrically adjustable steering wheel, and more. The SUV is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. The SUV is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The price for the Harrier starts at Rs 15.49 lakh, ex-showroom, and goes up to Rs 26.44 lakh, ex-showroom.
